Feeling lost while making your own international travel guide? Start with the following google searches and follow the steps:
1.) " Best regions in ___to visit"
2.) "Hidden gems in _region you choose__"
3.) Pull up google maps and begin to map out the hidden gems you find online.
4.) Choose accommodation in proximity to these locations.
5.) Check driving routes and allow time for error/ spontaneity when planning your day.
6.) Book your rental car around the airport you fly into
7.) Create a list of favorite restaurants in each location. You don't need to always reserve ahead of time, but this avoids google searching + scrambling to find a place while you're there.
Tips for Saving Money on Flights
- Put a flight watch on for about 2 weeks. You will be notified of the best price, as it can fluctuate.
- Always check credit card points/deals. I have a Capital One VentureOne credit card and love using it for travel. Check my referral link to apply, no charge!
- Book 3 weeks to 3 months out for the cheapest rate.
- Check the Google flight calendar to choose your best airport. It could save you some $ flying somewhere and getting a rental car or adding a connecting flight.
- Tuesdays and Saturdays are generally less expensive days to travel on.
- Try Skyscanner rather than direct airline sites for better rates.
- Expedia Travel also offers good rates.
Experience the Thrill of Adventure
- When booking tours, look for ones that cap numbers. You don't want to be sitting on an "adventure bus" with 40 other people.
- Airbnb experiences are a great way to have private experiences with local guides.
- Check the reviews! Reviews say it all.
- Google search on images the name of the company before booking to get a better idea.
Tips for Visiting Top Tourist Attractions
Top tourist attractions are "top" for a reason.. so you still may want to incorporate them into your itineraries. Here are some tips to avoid crowds:
- Visit these crowded locations before 10am or after 4pm
- Visit in the off season or shoulder season ( easy google search for your destination )
- Buy tickets ahead of time to get an early time slot
- Don't stack hot ticket destinations, spread them out throughout your trip amongst hidden gems and other activities.
- If you don't like waking up early, visit an hour or so before closing for fewer people.
